Yes, those are jorts and my floor needs refinishing.
Those are Poverty brand pedals with very sharp claws. Very good in the winter. Not so good with flip flops and slipped chains. When you have a slipping chain ring it usually happens right before you head into traffic, which makes it both painful and embarassing.
I tried to get Nick into rowing. I enrolled him in an Afterschool Matters program that actually paid him to row.
The teacher thought he was a very good cockswain which is not an actual rower but, to me that was amazing news.
He thought Nick was very good at taking charge of the boat.
Nick never allowed me to be any where near where he was rowing and for some reason I respected that.
I never saw him in a boat.
I bought this at Home Depot when I first moved back to Chicago. It was tiny and adorable. Spindly stalks with gorgeous broad leaves as a canopy. It took like 3 years before it grew over 20". It's now 5' tall and is an amazingly sturdy beast. When I'll get coffee beans I have no idea. I have no clue how this plant works.
This is my hi-tech watering system when I leave for weekends. It took hours of tweaking to get the water flow just right.
In this pic you can see my new baby Ethiopian coffee plant growing next to the water bottle. This one is only a few years old and it actually took a year before the seeds sprouted. It's about 20" tall now and only has two stalks.
These are the Peruvian peppers I grow underneath her. They're tiny but wicked hot.
Ohio House Coffee Shop closing. I always thought this hotel was an amazing film location. I also really really want that sign!

Zoe likes snow. She likes to shove her face in it. She especially likes to find a hole to shove her face into. This is Zoe doing proud work. Shoving her face into a hole. Keeping up the Wirefox tradition of being weird dogs. If there's a good 5-6 inches of fresh snow, she will run along and snow plow it with her face. This makes her very happy. If you've never seen a dog trot and snow plow her face in the snow you are missing something special.
You don't really know anything about me if you don't know my love for drum corp and flag girls...
In my head it's an angry circus elephant. What is your sleepy booze animal? Baby seal?Whenever I take my first sip of booze, I picture a glittery raver pony inside my head waking up from her nap.

This is only Vietnamese because I always grill the pork with a caramel sauce they call Nauc Mau. I use this sauce for everything, although I don't make it traditionally. I always add fish and soy sauce to the caramel and sometimes apricot. It makes for a smokey sweet vinegary broth almost like coffee.
For the caramel sauce you brown sugar until smokey brown like just past coffee with cream color. It should be well done but not burnt or bitter. Then you need some hot soy and water to dilute. Cold soy will make the sugar lump up and the sauce will probably boil over. Add the apricot to this sauce when it settles and turn the heat down. I cook some very cheap pork back ribs with just salt and pepper under a broiler. When they are cooked, I add the caramel sauce to char it up. Takes only a few seconds. I do both sides usually on a grill rack under the broiler.
The broth is a very basic beef broth with soy, rice wine vinegar and water combo but I add the leftover caramel from cooking the pork. You would add any heat here.
I saute pearl onions, mushrooms and garlic in peanut oil for extra flavor. Garnish with chopped scallions and parsley.
